Biography:
Jodyne Greig is an accredited Disability Social Worker in Western Australia with over 20 years in the disability sector. Specialising in supporting youth and adults with complex presentations of disability and a history of disengagement with services, Jodyne has published articles with Social Work Focus and Australasian Society of Intellectual Disability. Abstract:
Within the NDIS, the roles of occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and physiotherapists are well-recognised, yet the vital contributions of social workers as Allied Health capacity building professionals often remain misunderstood or overlooked. Social workers are skilled at navigating the most complex and challenging presentations, assessing NDIS participants within their environment and broader systems and are able to identify complex psychosocial barriers impeding participant’s social functioning.
This presentation will provide clarity and insight into the diverse and impactful roles that social workers play within the NDIS to foster empowerment for individuals with disabilities. From assessments and capacity building to crisis intervention and specialist support coordination, Social Workers provide holistic, person-centred and when needed assertive outreach approaches that complement other allied health interventions.
Through real-life scenarios, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how social workers make a tangible difference and how collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches that fully integrate social work expertise led to stronger outcomes and more sustainable supports for people with disabilities.
Join us as we explore the transformative impact of social workers in the NDIS, challenge outdated perceptions, and showcase why their role is critical in empowering lives.
